Care for the Environment

At Alchemilla, our concern for the future of our planet has led to our commitment to conducting business in an environmentally responsible manner. Some of the ways in which we strive to protect our environment:

• Product packaging is recyclable and/or recycled.
• Raw materials are sourced from local, organic suppliers as much as possible.
• Products are made in a 100% renewable energy-powered facility.
• Many of the organic herbs are grown ourselves, reducing packaging needs and gas emissions, and increasing local soil health and biodiversity.
• We use 100% post consumer material for printed goods and utilize waste-conscious administrative procedures.
• Packaging peanuts are either salvaged from other companies or manufactured from biodegradable plant starch.
• Our modest packaging considers ease of recyclability.

Our Work with the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP)

The Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides runs various educational and lobbying programs to help promote the use of ecologically sound alternatives to pesticides, both in rural and residential settings.

Named one of the top 100 green companies in Oregon, the NCAP was formed 32 years ago by farmers and reforestation workers who were concerned about the detrimental health effect of pesticide spraying.

The NCAP?s work primarily involves educating people about the potential harm that pesticides cause our bodies and the planet, and how we can implement effective and sustainable alternative land management practices to realize better human and ecological health.

Whether at home, in our schools and parks, or in our communities and agricultural settings, the NCAP is committed to lobbying for stricter law surrounding the use of these poisons.

Alchemilla has partnered with the NCAP by pledging a $1 donation from the sale of every Alchemilla Skin Care Trial Kit. This financial promise is our way of helping to champion a highly worthwhile cause while providing Alchemilla customers with a convenient way to travel with, or sample our products.

Our Work with United Plant Savers

An increased interest in botanical based skin care and alternative remedies in the past two decades has come with an intense increase in wild harvesting of herbs. This, combined with habitat destruction for housing, has caused a rapid depletion of some important medicinal plant resources, many of which are now classified as "at risk".

This problematic side effect is an issue that must be addressed, both for the sustainability of many plant species and so that consumers can continue to benefit from their wonderful medicinal properties.

One important organization that is working to protect this plant life is United Plant Savers.

Founded by reknowned herbalist Rosemary Gladstar over 15 years ago, United Plant Savers adopted the mission to protect at-risk native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their native habitats. The organization offers outreach in the form of research, education, and protection efforts that all serve the purpose of providing an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants.

Alchemilla supports the work of United Plant Savers by remaining a proud corporate member of the organization.

Certified Cruelty Free

Neither we, nor any of our suppliers, carry out animal testing on our ingredients or finished products. In fact, our skin care line is Certified Cruelty Free by the PETA organization and is 100% vegetarian and mostly vegan.

Campaign for Safe Cosmetics

The Environmental Working Group?s Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has consistently rated our products with a very low hazard score, and we are one of the few American skin care manufacturers recognized as ?Champion and Innovator? in EWG?s Market Shift Report.

Educating Consumers about Skin Care

Alchemilla takes consumer education seriously.

We don?t believe in suggesting that our product does something remarkable and not offering any explanation as to why, nor do we believe in making promises of beautiful looking skin while disregarding the need to care for its long term health.

From our comprehensive online product descriptions, informative articles, full ingredient disclosure, to our unique and popular skin care herbarium, it?s clear that we don?t skimp on time or effort when it comes to sharing and justifying the effectiveness of our products!

We do what we can to ensure customers fully understand the Alchemilla product they are putting on their skin, and what each natural ingredient does to support its well-being.

Kiva is a non-profit organization that connects people through lending to alleviate poverty. Using a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva enables individuals around the world to lend small amounts of money to help people to create opportunities for better lives for themselves, their families and their communities.
